Le Chateau Frontenac

The last few weeks I have been working on a work project that will take place in Canada. All this discussion of Canada has me remembering a trip I took with my family to Quebec. During this trip, we stayed at the most wonderful hotel -- Le Chateau Frontenac, which is run the by Fairmont hotel chain. It was built in 1893 as one of a series of  "chateau" style hotels for the Canada Pacific Railway Company.

Chateau Frontenac is situated in Old Quebec, a lovely very-French section of Quebec which is actually a United Nations World Heritage Site. The hotel sits high on a bluff overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Due to this location, the hotel is in walking distance to many great sites of Quebec. The area boasts many restaurants, outdoor cafés, bars, and souvenir boutiques. Craftmans, artisans and caricaturists can be found at almost every street corner. The hotel is the most prominent feature of the Quebec City skyline.

The hotel has a very old European feel. It seems as if you were in one of the great cities of Europe. Its architecture is pure castle with tall turrets sticking out the top. The lobby and all of the public areas continue the old European theme. It is absolutely  throw-back. No sleek stark surroundings here!

TIP: If you are going to the Frontenac with little girls, there is a Princess Program you can enroll in to give them a true taste of the "princess" life. I certainly would have taken advantage of this had it been around when I went there!

When we stayed there, I remember the rooms being very large and beautifully decorated. Apparently, all of the rooms have been renovated, so they are probably even prettier now.

The Chateau Frontenac is a truly lovely hotel which adds to the old-world experience that Quebec generally has to offer. It makes for a lovely trip either in winter or summer.
